Resource Fairs
These
fairs are hosted throughout Chicago to attract members
of at-risk populations with opportunities for employment
and employment training, while simultaneously providing
vital health screenings and information on viral hepatitis
and other diseases.
Prison
Re-entry Project
GDHEF
graduated several individuals who have completed one
of more than (24) 20-hour intensive education and awareness
programs on Hep A, B & C and HIV/AIDS. The program
was conducted by GDHEF, Men and Women Prison Ministries,
Exodus Renewal Society and Trinity United Church of
Christ. The goal of the program is to bring the hazards
and risks of these diseases front and center to males
at transitional facilities prior to their return to

Chicago
Public Schools Hepatitis Education & Immunization
Pilot Program
In
collaboration with the Chicago Public Schools, Chicago
Department of Public Health and partly funded by GlaxoSmithKline
(GSK), we developed a pilot program called "The
ABC's of Hepatitis.: The curriculum, written by GDHEF,
was designed to educate students and their parents or
guardians on the Hepatitis B virus, its risk factors
and prevention methods including an immunization program.
Hepatitis
- Train the Trainer
GDHEF
holds "Train the Trainer" workshops on Hepatitis
A,B, and C for health care professionals and community
health advocates. Past work shops have been held in
conjunction with Health Consortium of Illinois, Chicago
Department of Public Health, and the Black Nurses Association.
Illinois
Hepatitis Task Force
GDHEF
in collaboration with Health Consortium of Illinois,
sponsored in part by GlaxoSmithKline has developed a
progressive task force and programs on viral hepatitis
prevention. The primary goal of the task force is to
promote Hepatitis A and B vaccinations at Chicago Department
of Public Health clinics and private practices among
African American adults. In addition, GDHEF and it's
stakeholders of risk factors for Hepatitis A and B among
this target group.
Health
and Human Services Minority Hepatitis Health Grant
GDHEF
is completing its final year of a 2-year grant from
the Department of Health & Human Services to conduct
a comprehensive program on viral hepatitis awareness
throughout the greater Chicago area.
